Two South Africans who were at Istanbul’s Ataturk Airport when suicide bombers struck, killing 28 people, have given a harrowing account of what happened.

Paul and Susie Roos, from Cape Town, were at the airport and due to fly home at the time of the explosions on Tuesday. They were shaken by what they witnessed.

“We came up from the arrivals to the departures, up the escalator when we heard these shots going off,” Paul told the AP.

He added: “There was this guy going roaming around, he was dressed in black and he had a hand gun.

As he spoke, hundreds of passengers were spilling out of the airport building with their suitcases in hand or stacked onto trolleys.

Others are sitting on the grass, their bodies lit by the flashing lights of ambulances and police cars, which are the only kind of vehicles allowed to reach the airport.

CNN is reporting that there appeared to be three attackers and three blasts which resulted in 28 dead and 60 injured.

Nobody has claimed responsibility for the attack.
