An application to set aside the appointment of Cape Agulhas municipal manager Dean O’Neill will be heard by the Western Cape High Court on Wednesday.

O’Neill is Western Cape ANC chairperson Marius Fransman’s brother-in-law.

Fransman is accused of nepotism and political interference relating to O’Neill’s appointment in 2013.

The application has been brought by former municipal manager Reynold Stevens.

In an exclusive interview with News24 last week, Fransman said he had objected to O’Neill’s appointment but had been overruled on the basis of his work experience.

Fransman said at the time he was going to take the people behind these allegations to court for tarnishing his name.NEWS24
