With the moon having been sighted on Tuesday evening, the month of Thil Hijja officially started on Wednesday. According to the Muslim Judicial Council (MJC), this means that the Muslim festival of Eidul Adha will take place on Friday 27 November, coinciding with the 10th of Thil Hijja. This announcement comes after Saudi authorities announced on Tuesday that Arafat will take place on Thursday 26 November.
"The MJC hereby confirms that the moon for the moon for the month of Thil Hijja has been sighted on the 18th of November 2009. We hereby declare that the 10th of Thil Hijja/27 November is therefore the official date for the celebration of Eidul Adha," the ulema body said in a statement.
"During this auspicious time, we remember our loved ones and all hujjaj performing the pilgrimage this year. We make dua that Allah (SWT) grants them a haj maqbul and a safe return to their families. We also appeal to the community to engage themselves in acts of virtue, righteousness, good deeds and abstain from all acts which could weaken our deen and imam," MJC secretary general, Maulana Abdul Khaliq Allie stated.
