A new provincial provincial executive committee for the ANC in the Western Cape has been elected.

Khaya Magaxa was named deputy chairperson after standing for nomination against outgoing Abraham Bekeer.

Faiz Jacobs replaced Songezo Mjongile as secretary, with Thandi Manyikivana replacing Maurencia Gillion as deputy secretary.

Gillion replaced Fezile Calane as treasurer after standing against Hishaam Mahomed.

This after Marius Fransman was early this morning confirmed to serve for a second term as the provincial chairperson after he was elected unopposed for the position.

At the start of the conference, held at the Cape Peninsula University of Technology’s Bellville campus, Fransman insisted the party intended to win the province from the DA by 2019.

This, he said, would be done by winning over the city’s coloured middle class, which “together with the rural coloured population were historically our supporters of the ANC”. News24
