The Polokwane businessman on trial for killing his wife was arrested on Friday in connection with another murder committed two years ago, Limpopo police said.

Rameez Patel, who was out on bail of R250 000, was arrested at his workplace in connection with the death of Tony Adams in Westenburg, Polokwane, in 2013, Colonel Ronel Otto said.

Adams apparently entered Patels’ property unlawfully and was assaulted with a hockey stick. His body was dumped in the parking lot of a local supermarket.

“Sometimes the investigation takes time. It was initially suspected that it was a mob justice attack,” Otto said about the two-year delay in making an arrest.

Patel, 28, was arrested on April 15 for the murder of his wife Fatima, whose body was found in their rented flat in the Nirvana suburb. She had been shot and assaulted.

On July 7, the court relaxed his bail conditions following a request from his lawyer Tumi Mokwena.

This meant he would be allowed to travel to his business without the investigating officer’s permission.

This trial was postponed to September 22. News24
