Trapped miners may still be alive

Mine rescue services say there is renewed hope that the three mine workers trapped at a gold mine in Mpumalanga since Friday, may still be alive.

They say a locator device has detected a response, suggesting possible signs of life.

The container is buried under some heavy rubble. So far, rescue teams have managed to shift 4,000 tons of debris.

The two women and one man were among 90 workers who got trapped underground when a shaft collapsed on Friday.

87 miners others were rescued with minor injuries.

Rescue services from across Mpumalanga are involved in the massive operation to free the remaining miners from tonnes of debris as families wait outside the mine’s gates for news.

Over the weekend, local clergyman conducted prayer services.

The three missing workers were inside a container office on top of the shaft that collapsed.
