President Jacob Zuma will release the report of the Marikana Commission of Inquiry on Thursday evening.

“President Jacob Zuma will address the nation this evening, June 25 2015, and also release the report of the Marikana Commission of Inquiry,” the presidency said in a statement.

“The President will address the nation through the public broadcaster, the SABC at 19:00.”

Zuma appointed the commission in August 2012 to investigate the deaths of 44 people during a platinum mine strike in Rustenburg in the North West.

He has faced criticism and was taken to court for delaying the release the report, which was handed over to him in March.

He promised to release it before the end of the month.

The Commission was chaired by retired judge Ian Farlam, and assisted by Advocates PD Hemraj SC and BR Tokota SC. News24
