One person has died, one suffered serious injuries and at least another 25 suffered minor to moderate injuries in a collision involving a bus on Lansdowne Road in Phillipi in Cape Town on Tuesday, paramedics said.

ER24 spokesperson Chirta Bodasing said in a statement on Tuesday that it was believed that a bus collided with another vehicle and landed on its side.

“When ER24 paramedics and other services arrived on scene they found two people trapped in the bus,” she said.

“They were extricated by Fire and Rescue Services and Metro Services. They were assessed. Unfortunately there was nothing paramedics could do for one of the people [who] had sustained multiple severe injuries.”

The second person sustained serious injuries, was treated and then transported to hospital for further care.

The cause of the collision was unknown.
