Five people, including a patient, were killed when a medical plane crashed in the Plattekloof area in Cape Town on Sunday morning, emergency services said.

The plane, that was coming from Namibia, went missing off the radar at 06:50 on Sunday morning, spokesperson Mark van der Heever told News24.

“The call was made to our emergency control room at 07:50.

“We then dispatched our helicopter to go and search for it. At 08:03 the helicopter arrived in the Plattekloof area and found the wreckage still burning,” said Van der Heever.

Cape Town disaster management spokesperson Wilfred Solomons Johannes said the plane went down near Maastricht Farm, Tygervalley Road.

All five people were declared dead on the scene.

Their bodies would be taken to a nearby mortuary.

Van der Heever could not say where the plane was going when it crashed. News24
