Every year, al-Baraka Bank sends one lucky client on Hajj in its annual Haj Air Ticket Draw. The Bank annually sponsors at least three Hajj investment clients with R10 000 each per in three regions; Kwazulu-Natal, the Western Cape, and Gauteng. To date, the bank has sponsored over 70 hujjaaj with a stipend towards their hajj tickets in 24 annual draws. Due to the increased hajj costs, Al-Baraka has increased the sponsored amount from R10, 000 to R20, 000.

Senior consultant at Al Baraka Bank, Mujeeb Arnold explains that clients qualify for the draw if they hold an active Hajj Investment Account, in which a monthly deposit is made, and if the account holds minimum investment balance of at least R2, 500.

He says that the required balance is an indication that the person has made an assertive intention to make the journey.

“Employees of the Al-Baraka Bank, their families, and previous winners do not qualify,” Arnold continued.

Winners of the draw are accredited with the prize money directly into their hajj account. They are can then access the money once they are able to make the journey.

This year, the Cape Town winner is Shahida Ebrahim Ahmad Hassiem from Walmer Estate.

Speaking to VOC, Hassiem expressed her elation on air as she received the news on Friday stating that she is ecstatic.

“I am speechless, but I make shukr to Allah,” she said.

Arnold further notes that prospective hujjaaj who invest with Al-Baraka Bank can be ensured that their money will be invested in a shari’ah compliant manner.

“This is an invite to all non-clients to open a hajj account, so that they can be allegeable for next year.”
