The bitter cold season of winter is approaching and many people are deprived of basic needs such as warm clothes. In response to this dire need, the Al- Imdaad foundation has launched project Winter warmth in order to aid those less fortunate. The team of Al-Imdaad will be travelling around the country distributing blankets and other necessities that are required during the winter months.
Trustee and project coordinator of Al-Imdaad, Qari Ziyaad Patel, explained that the foundation has once again launched their annual project as part of their Humanitarian service.
“The Al-Imdaad Foundation is in contact with all disaster management structures across the country. Alghamdulillaah, this gives Al Imdaad the edge to operate so quickly and efficiently especially in times of disaster,” Patel explained.
The main objective of the project is to donate blankets, but the extent of the situation within certain communities is so severe that heaters or full winter packs containing gloves and hats are distributed.
The foundation is directed to areas that are in dire need of blankets and other resources that are required to survive winter, as assessed by the Department of Social Welfare.
Community members are registered and allocated a voucher. On the day of distribution, a strict procedure is followed; recipients names are checked on the list and subsequently cross-checked with their ID number and voucher.
This project has been running for the last 10 years and has grown significantly ever since.
“Alghamdulillaah this project has only grown from strength to strength,” Patel proudly stated.
