Hundreds gathered to experience the beauty of Ramadan as VOC in association with Gift of the Givers (GOTG) celebrated its second mass iftar as part of the Ahlan Wasahlan (AWS) initiative at Eagle Park masjid on Sunday. Over 300 people attended the AWS initiative to not only enjoy iftar but empathize with the hardships of impoverished residents.

“Another mass khatam-al-Quran has been successfully received by the Muslim community and alhamdulillah, we are grateful,” says VOC marketing manager Sukayna Johaardien.

The iftar-khatam celebration allows Muslim listeners to experience for themselves what it feels like to walk in the shoes of the poor as they break their fast at the masjid with an iftar plate. The iftar plate along with all the food and beverages are sponsored by GOTG while the khatam and thikr is conducted by the musallees of the masjid VOC visits every Sunday until the end of Ramadan.

The program started with a khatam, then a thikr led by Faried Galant and his Jamaah. The musalees were not only served soup, savouries, dates and water but given a Quran to take home with them.

Johaardien appealed to the public to make a donation towards the AWS programme.

“No donation is too small. Every bit helps. We urge the musallees to contribute with whatever donations they can afford for the AWS programme,” says Johaardien.
