As this month marks two years after the war on Gaza, the Al Quds Foundation have launched an appeal project for medical supplies for the people in Gaza. Life on the occupied Palestinian territories is a struggle due to the lack of basic needs which include water, sanitation and access to health care and Gaza continues to suffer the brutality of the economic feat which is the result of Zionist occupation.
AQF directo rMaulana Igshaan Hendricks told VOC that in the past they have raised a substantial amount of money that was successfully sent to the people in Gaza. Due to this the Al Quds Foundation hopes to ease Gaza’s struggle with this new appeal. Hendricks said that the water issue is making progress due to Turkey’s most recent initiative which is a major step in improving the water facilities in Gaza.
As things are moving forward, Hendricks added that there are students from Gaza who are studying in South Africa and he shone a particular light on an academic from Stellenbosch University, who has committed himself to raising bursary funds for the students coming from Gaza.
Upon this Hendricks mentioned that although South Africa has its own challenges, the community always works towards helping those in need.
“The South African community over the years never neglects our own people, but we also have a piece of bread to share with the suffering communities of other parts of the world,” said Hendricks.
The Al Quds Foundation has appealed for school bags and the water project in the past and they will soon be appealing for Gaza students, they will have representatives of the Islamic University of Gaza and they hope to strike some strategic relations with the universities in South Africa.
