Armed robbers used the cover of a cash-in-transit vehicle to gain entry to the nearby cash depot, Western Cape police confirmed on Tuesday.
They hijacked the vehicle in Freedom Way, Montague Gardens around 19:15, said Lieutenant Colonel Andre Traut.
The gang then drove the vehicle into the depot a few kilometres away and held staff up at gunpoint.
An undisclosed amount of cash was taken.
Traut said the suspects fled in a white BMW, a black Mercedes Benz and a grey Toyoto Verso. A white Mercedes Benz was left behind at the scene.
No injuries were reported.
Traut said no one was arrested and an investigation was underway. News24
