An armed gang of four robbed the Woolworths store in Canal Walk shopping centre in Milnerton, Cape Town, on Monday morning and fled with an undisclosed amount of money, Western Cape police said.

They were allegedly dressed up as contractors and overpowered security guards around 07:30, said police spokesperson Captain FC van Wyk.

They fled the scene in a white Toyota Verso. No injuries were sustained and no shots were fired.

Woolworths confirmed in a statement on Monday that the incident took place before the store opened for business.

It said the money was taken from a back office. News24
