Government has confirmed that a second Cape Town teenager was prevented from leaving the country to join the  Islamic State group. State Security Minister David Mahlobo says the high school girl from Grassy Park was apprehended 10 days after a Kenwyn teenager was intercepted at the airport.

The Grassy Park teenager is a good friend of the first teenager who was also apprehended at the Cape Town International Airport earlier. The authorities received information from the 15-year-old girl from Kenwyn who admitted that she was planning to join IS after she was taken off a flight to Johannesburg during Easter Weekend.

Mahlobo warned parents to supervise their children’s on-line activities without invading their privacy.

  1. what happened to the usual "right to answer" from the muslim authorities like the mjc et al? even the voc report is rather flat with no comments from muslim commentators….

some have opined that the ulema should talk more AGAINST such ideas or moves, but it is PRECISELY, even though only partly, because of the ulema and bodies' talks of sectarianism especially the SHIA GEVAAR ones that have encouraged the vulnerable

if 15 year olds can take such drastic steps, imagine what some adults would be ready to do at the beck and call of ulema such as ak hoosen adl website etc

  2. 1) What it comes down to is parenting and communication between parents and their kids. As long as the kids are going to school, madrassah and are good muslims / muslimahs, the parents are okay with that. No indepth discussion or talking to their kids about world events and guiding them accordingly. I won’t be surprised, though, if some parents out there actually support the activities of ISIL and their terrorist friends.

    2) Abe, don’t hold your breath waiting for the ulema to do anything about the ISIL issue. Sad fact is, many of them even support ISIL and groups like these.

I am a sunni muslim and I am against causing problems with Shia, Yezidis, Christians, etc. Let us show the world what true unity is all about. Let us invent some new technology the world will benefit from or even find a cure for cancer. I mean, really, if we can’t find solutions to these issues, how can we prove to the world that Islam is the answer for many issues the world over.

Right now, we Muslims are just giving the impression that we are the problem instead a of a real solution.
