The Boycott Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) movement in South Africa is hosting a live TV pledge-line for on Friday 8 August 2014 from 8pm to midnight on ITV on DSTV Channel 347. BDS South Africa is one of the leading Palestine solidarity organisations in the country working full-time on the boycott of Israel and relies solely on donations from the public.

Special guests for the live donation pledge-line will include: comedian Riaad Moosa, Maulana Sulaiman Ravat from Radio Islam, Kwara Kekana and Muhammed Desai from BDS South Africa, Ebrahim Patel formerly of FNB, Maulana Ighsaan Hendricks from the MJC, businessman Nazir Osman, Ahmed Shaikh from Al Ansaar Radio, Tebogo Thotela from Wits University and others.

Donations will go towards the funding of a head office in Johannesburg, a staff compliment and towards the long-term, strategic and sustainable consumer, academic, economic and other boycott of Israel campaigns run in South Africa. In addition, funds are needed to cover the expenses of solidarity actions, for example, the upcoming SA March for Gaza national protest this Saturday 09 August. The protest is expected to be one of the largest in post Apartheid SA.

The Palestinian led international BDS campaign is a practical, non-violent, goal-orientated and strategic campaign to hold the State of Israel accountable to international law and human rights. The BDS campaign is also increasingly supported by (progressive) Israelis. The international isolation of Israel it is hoped will lead to the necessary conditions for a just peace to be negotiated – similar to what occurred in South Africa and brought about a democratic country for all our people.

BDS South Africa, is a registered Public Benefit Organisation (PBO) with Section 18A tax-deductible status. This means that any donations made to BDS South Africa can be used to apply for tax exemptions.
