Boeka Treats and Kayfee Magazine launched

The Boorhaanol Islam Movement launched their annual Ramadan publication Boeka Treats on Saturday, with an added plus this year, the all new Kayfee Magazine. The two books contain recipes, interviews and reviews of interest to the average Muslim Capetonian.

The term ‘Kayfee’, a biannual magazine, refers to Cape Muslims, a name given to Cape Muslims during Hajj.

Kayfee will provide a three column overview of major news stories from the past six months that affected “Kayfies” in the Cape, nationally and globally called ‘Cape news reel’, compiled by VOC News editor Tasneem Adams and presenter Shafiq Morton. The over 100 page magazine will encompass all that is the Muslim community of Cape Town.

Sheikh Ebrahim Gabriels, Imam Farid Esack and Judge Gayaat Hlope provides their stories of interest and offers readers insight into particular situations and matters that have influenced them in their respective lives.

“This magazine is meant to assist and inform Muslims. There is information on how to perform umrah, education, Islamic finance, parenting guide and very important things about our culture that we should not take for granted,” project coordinator Abdul Muhaimin Bassier explains.

The book will also provide details on origins of colloquial words used among Cape Muslims.

The other part to the two part Ramadaan Combo pack is the Boorhanol Boeka Treats. According to Bassier, the Boeka Treats book focuses on recipes alone.

“We have gone back to a boeka treat book with 71 recipes that can be kept in the kitchen. The smaller compact book has all the delicious recipes tried and tested from the Cape Muslim community.”
