A popular butchery in Surrey Estate was stripped during an armed robbery on Monday morning. Three men walked into the Torrid Meat Market and held staff at gun point. The suspects demanded cash from the staff and assaulted one of the employees. Manenberg police station spokesperson Lieutenant Ian Bennett said the suspects fled with the company’s vehicle and a disclosed amount of cash.

“They got away with R29 000 and the business’ Toyota Condor,” said Bennett.

One injured staff member fled hysterically onto the premises of a nearby resident in the area.

“The one person who works at the butcher ran in here with a bandage around his head and said frantically that a burglar hit him over the head with a gun,” said an anonymous bystander.

Two police vehicles circulated the premises and the butchery is currently closed. Investigations are underway.

Anyone with any information can contact Manenberg Police Station on 021 6999 400 or crime stop on 08600 111. VOC (Nailah Cornelissen)
