About 200 firefighters would spend Monday night fighting the flames in and around Scarborough, Cape Town, city officials said.

The fire had spread to Ocean View, Misty Cliffs, and Kommetjie and was being fanned by a strong south-easterly wind, said spokesperson Liezl Moodie.

The fire gained momentum since it began on Monday morning, destroying 20 shacks at the Rasta Camp informal settlement. No injuries were reported.

The firefighters were from various services, including the city, Working on Fire, Table Mountain National Parks, and Volunteer Wildland Fire Services. News24
