Chad Hanning did a live art installation of a Jurassic Park-themed mural in Braamfontein on 2 May for the 8th Artists Series event.
Produced in collaboration with Sneaker LAB, Hanning created a creative mural to fit the brand’s Braamfontein store. He included all his signature elements and based the design around the theme: The Lab meets the Jurassic Era.
In addition, Hanning also designed customised T-Shirts featuring his signature cartoons and vibrant vector illustrations. The live painting was accompanied by Oh Those Guys on the decks, ensuring for a truly creative atmosphere.
Hanning grew up in Cape Town’s Mecca of graffiti, Mitchells Plain Westridge. He began his street art journey at 14 and draws inspiration from music and creative ways to unite the youth. Hanning also loves cartoons.
Hanning jam-packs his art with vibrant and playful creativity, fun cartoons and bright vector illustrations. According to Hanning, “life can be depressing and hard at times,” but his colourful illustrations gives a break from the harsh reality.
Hanning was also featured at the Design Indaba festival where he was acknowledged as an Emerging Creative. Besides being featured at festivals, his work is on show on walls from Vietnam to Villiersdorp, and within the Cape Town suburbs of Woodstock, Salt River and Gardens.
“The message of street art is where its power lies. It gives a place a feeling; brings it to life. My artwork and light themes allow the viewer to break away from the harsh realities of life for a moment,” says Hanning.
This event is the eighth installation of SneakerLAB’s renowned Artist Series. The series also gives a platform for up and coming artists to share their work with on a larger scale.
