A child is believed to have been raped during a robbery near Bernadino Heights, Kraaifontein, Western Cape police said on Friday.

Spokesperson Captain FC Van Wyk confirmed the incident took place between 05:30 and 07:45.

“An unidentified intruder gained access to a residence… and fled the scene with two cellphones when a neighbour visited,” he said.

It is understood that two children had been home at the time, and that one of them was raped.

However, Van Wyk said no detailed information would be made available due to their ages and the nature of the offence.

Police confirmed a house robbery and rape case were under investigation.
