A number of South Africans have added to the call for President Jacob Zuma to resign by writing their own open letters.

Posted to the Facebook page ‘Protect Our Beloved Country’, the letters are a mix of simple one-liners, longer essays, and pleas from some who voted for the ANC or are fierce supporters of Finance Minister Pravin Gordhan.

Rayza Mabutane said he had really been looking forward to the drop in the fuel price next week.

“However because of the rand not being stable due to your bloody nonsense against Mr Pravin the fuel will not drop as initially expected,” he said.

Lindokuhle Motau said she was a “born-free” and knew little about apartheid and the struggle her parents went through.

However, she believed that Zuma would have taken the country to another level if he had the people’s interests at heart.

“Unfortunately you did the opposite and with your arrogance you are taking us nowhere and fast for that matter,” she said.

“So please step down with the little respect that you still have in some of the South African citizens.”

Geraard Baars recognised Zuma as a chief of the nation. He then called on the president to “do the noble thing” and return to Nkandla.

“Once you’ve paid the measly R7.8 million you can have it and live in luxury, contemplating your great contribution to our rainbow nation.”

Mhambi Happy Hlophe asked Zuma to resign for the sake of the future and the joy of his kids.

Clinton Klein also believed Zuma should show some integrity and step down for future citizens.

Taking a spiritual perspective, he asked God to have mercy on Zuma’s soul.

“God does love you very much Mr President, He sent His Son Jesus to die on the Cross of Calvary… Love you Mr Zuma,” said Klein.

Counting himself as a strong ANC supporter, Yasier Gabier said he had never thought of voting for another political party.

“But Jacob Zuma, because of your thievery, lies and total disrespect towards our constitution… I can’t vote ANC.”

Gabier implored him to step down to save Nelson Mandela’s legacy.

Not wasting time with a long letter, Nicole Withers asked Zuma to accept that “we all know you are a vuil uil [dirty owl]”.

“Just go. Leave us to pick up the pieces you have thrown around,” she said.

The Facebook page had a simple caption “We are many, they are few”.

A short video clip on a Twitter account with the same name showed a caricature of Gordhan holding an SA flag in one hand and documents with SAA, a nuclear sign and Eskom in the other.

While the anthem played in the background, the camera panned out to show South Africans forming a circle around him. Jesus was part of the circle.

Zuma, surrounded by boogie men, was depicted as a giant with his hand trying to reach Gordhan. A boy in front of the circle held up the Constitution and a bright light overwhelmed the scene.
