The City of Cape Town has put up a R50 000 reward for information regarding the shooting and injuring of two Metro Police officers and a motorist on the N2 near Borcherd’s Quarry on Monday morning.
The incident occurred shortly after 02h00 when cameras detected rocks in the road. Metro Police officers were responding to the scene when a motorist suffered a burst tyre due to the rocks.
The driver pulled off the road to tend to the tyre when another motorist pulled up alongside the driver and shot him.
Mayoral committee member for safety and security JP Smith said in a statement the suspects opened fire on members when they arrived at the scene.
“The female officer was wounded in the left leg and her colleague was shot in the upper right leg and left side of his groin. Both officers are 44-years-old. The shooter fled with a firearm belonging to one of the officers, a radio as well as some personal effects,” said Smith.
The City of Cape Town said it will work closely with SAPS (South African Police Service) to ensure those responsible are brought to book.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the South African Police Service or the City’s Public Emergency Communication Centre on 021 480 7700 from a cellphone or 107 from a landline.
