The South African Weather Service has said to expect cold conditions throughout the country on Friday, with rainfall expected over most provinces. Light showers are expected on and off in the northern parts of the country, including the North West, Gauteng and Mpumalanga. Rain is expected over the Western Cape on Friday, and will move toward the Eastern Cape on Friday night.

“There is a chance of flooding possibly along the west and south coast this [Friday] afternoon and tomorrow [Saturday] morning,” the South African Weather Service’s Diauo Tawana told News24.

KwaZulu-Natal can also expect on and off showers as the day progresses. Cold conditions are expected in most parts of the country, Tawana added. The only province to be spared the rainfall will be the Northern Cape.

In traffic meanwhile, two crashes have caused traffic delays in the Johannesburg and Cape Town areas. TrafficSA’s Rob Byrne tweeted images of a horror crash near the M5/Klipfontein turnoff in Cape Town.

In Johannesburg, a truck overturned on the M1 northbound, causing traffic delays near the Jan Smuts Avenue exit. Commuters in Mpumalanga too have been warned to watch out for wet and slippery conditions.  News24
