Three men are expected to appear in the Wynberg Magistrate’s Court on Monday for the possession of contraband worth R150 000, police confirmed on Friday.
Spokesperson Captain FC Van Wyk said a tip-off to the Border Police’s Cape Town Harbour station on Wednesday led to the seizure of illegally obtained crayfish, suspected stolen jewellery, handcuffs and various erectile enhancing pills.
The crayfish was allegedly being transported from Hout Bay, he said.
Van Wyk said when the information was received, the vehicle was traced to a tyre repair shop in Philippi.
The vehicle, along with a Nissan bakkie, was searched by police while the owners sat inside, he said.
When police searched the vehicles, “blue bags containing crayfish tails were found”.
Some 1 819 crayfish tails were seized.
Three suspects aged between 24 and 54 were arrested, he said.
They will appear in the Wynberg Magistrate’s Court on Monday. News24
