Around 230 000 members of unions affiliated with Cosatu are expected to take part in a march in Cape Town next week, the federation’s provincial secretary claimed on Thursday.

Tony Ehrenreich said a memorandum of demands would be handed over to a representative of Parliament.

The march is part of national action planned for Wednesday. Cosatu said the intention was to “shut the city down”.

Workers wanted to highlight, among other issues, “massive job losses across the economy”.

Those set to take part in the strike include workers from the clothing, public service, security, contract cleaning, parastatal, retail and manufacturing sectors.
