Police are on the hunt for three robbers who hit a Cape Town mall on Thursday.

The trio held up American Swiss at Westgate Mall in Mitchells Plain.

The robbers struck at 12:40, provincial police spokesperson Constable Noloyiso Rwexana confirmed.

“According to reports, three unidentified suspects entered the store and pointed a firearm at the victims. [They] demanded jewellery, cash and cell phones,” she said.

The robbers fled the scene with the goods, worth an undisclosed amount.

No arrests have yet been made.

Hout Bay mall robbery

The incident came hours after a Hout Bay mall was hit by a pair of thieves.

Rwexana confirmed a burglary took place at one of the retail stores at the Mainstream Centre at 03:15 on Thursday morning.

Security guards spotted two suspects loading stolen goods into a silver Audi.

“The suspects sped off and SAPS was alerted, and they gave chase. The Audi was pulled over at Constantia Neck and two suspects, aged 25 and 28 were arrested,” Rwexana said.

It was later discovered that the Audi had been hijacked in Milnerton last month.

The duo will appear in the Wynberg Magistrate’s Court on Monday.

Mainstream’s public relations manager Kerry Redelinghuys said they are “deeply concerned by the brazenness of criminals targeting shopping malls, regardless of effective security systems and cameras”. News24
