Traffic officers tracked down two alleged armed robbers shortly after a vehicle that had broken down on the R300 was targeted, Cape Town Traffic Services said on Tuesday.

Occupants of the vehicle flagged down patrolling officers near JDrive around 19:00 on Monday, said spokesperson Maxine Jordaan.

They claimed a gang of five robbed them at gunpoint and assaulted them.

Officers took a description of the armed robbers and went out on foot to try and locate them, said Jordaan.

They arrived at a RDP housing development opposite the R300 and arrested two people.

The pair apparently had knives and an imitation 9mm pistol, said the City’s safety and security mayoral committee member, JP Smith.

Jordaan said a docket of armed robbery, assault and pointing of a firearm had been opened at Lentegeur Police Station. News24
