The case of a police constable accused of killing a man by shooting him in the back will resume in the Mitchells Plain Magistrate’s Court on Monday.
In April,Faseegh Abdol was released on R2000 bail.
According to the Independent Police Investigative Directorate (Ipid) Sharief Bester, 34, and a friend were standing in a driveway in the early hours of the morning when a police vehicle stopped next to them.
The two were searched and the friend was released.
The police did not find anything on Bester but apparently wanted to arrest him and he resisted.
“It is further alleged that the deceased was pepper-sprayed. He was then released so that he could run away,” Ipid spokesman Moses Dlamini said.
“As he started to run, he was shot once in the back and he died on the scene.” SAPA
