The former DA leader in the Western Cape, Bongkinkosi Madikizela, has resigned as the party’s leader in the province. He recently became embroiled in a controversy by putting forward false qualifications, stating that he had a BCom degree.

DA provincial chairperson, Jaco Londt, says they respect Madikizela’s decision to step down.

The province’s Community Safety Minister, Albert Fritz, will remain the acting provincial leader until the party elects an interim leader at its provincial council on the 29th of next month following Madikizela’s recent suspension.

Madikizela also remains suspended as the province’s Transport and Public Works Minister.
