Eskom has terminated its contract for control and instrumentation works (C&I) with Alstom S&E Africa at its Kusile power station in Mpumalanga, the parastatal said on Friday.
“With the support of both organisations, a consensual termination has been reached on a co-operative walk-away basis,” Eskom said in a statement.
This would not affect Alstom’s C&I contract for Eskom’s Medupi power station.
The power utility announced that ABB South Africa was appointed in Alstom’s place to complete the control and instrumentation contract.
“ABB was selected from two suppliers which were evaluated as part of an extensive procurement process executed in parallel with the negotiation and subsequent consensual termination of the C&I contract,” it said.
“This procurement process, which has now been finalised, included an early design process and was focused on ensuring schedule security and the seamless introduction of an alternative contractor for Kusile.” SAPA
