Investigations are underway into a fire at the iconic St George’s Cathedral in Cape Town early this morning. According to reports, the fire was started in the basement and no significant damage was done. The flames were doused due to quick reaction from officials. Dean Michael Weeder says it is likely a case of arson, given evidence that a piece of cotton/gauze was lit and ‘thrown through the small, barred window near the steps’, and that someone was seen fleeing the scene.
