Chairperson of the ANC in the Western Cape, Marius Fransman, has issued a statement reiterating that he is the leader of the party in the province.
Fransman’s statement comes amidst confusion about his status in the party.
While the ANC’s head of elections Nomvula Mokonyane told journalists on Thursday that Fransman had been reinstated, ANC spokesperson Zizi Kodwa dismissed these claims.
In the statement issued on Friday, Fransman says he never stopped being the leader of the party, instead he stepped aside to allow the Integrity Commission to conduct it’s work.
Fransman says he has welcomed the acknowledgement of the ANC that he resumes his duties and responsibilities.
Fransman was suspended earlier this year following complaints of sexual harassment involving a young woman.
Kodwa says the Integrity Commission has made a recommendation that Fransman’s case be referred to the internal National Disciplinary Committee of the ANC.
He added that Fransman had not been reinstated.[Source: SABC News]
