VOC has extended the deadline for the Heritage Writing challenge to include the school holidays. The new deadline is 12th October 2015.
With September being Heritage month, the station launched the “Heritage Day – Writing Challenge”. This challenge asks listeners to interview senior persons, either in the family or someone in the community with regard to customs and traditions that are now dying out, or something amazing they have done or experienced. Senior people are also asked write a story.
Heritage Month recognises aspects of South African culture which are both tangible and intangible: creative expression such as music and performances, our historical inheritance, language, the food we eat as well as memories. Unfortunately, cultural memories and even documenting our lineage is on a decrease.
