Residents in Kraaifontein community have expressed concern after two teenage girls were murdered in a gang related feud. Both 17-year old Keesha Manuel and 16-year-old Nikieta Holly were laid to rest at the weekend after they were gunned down in Scottsville.

“These are young girls. It’s not easy for their families,” says Kraaifontein CPF spokesperson Mawethu Sila.

“One was shot on the forehead. They just went to the shop and they were shot. Even the police were shocked.”

Media reports stated that Manuel was a witness in a murder case involving several gang members.

Community leaders say the murder of two teenage girls has made an already fearful community all the more afraid to take a stand against gangsters who have been terrorizing the area.

The CPF has urged the community to assist the police by giving them any information regarding the shooting.

“The community should do what they can to help the police to find the culprits. Anyone who has committed this crime must face the law. The only way to stop these killings is for those who have witnessed it to come forward and speak out. These witnesses can stay anonymous,” says Sila.

Due to the nature of the crime not many details can be disclosed. An investigation is under way. VOC (Nailah Cornelissen)
