A Khayelitsha man was arrested after apparently stripping hubcaps and other items from a police minibus taxi and another taxi, Western Cape police said on Wednesday.

Two constables were alerted and found the parked vehicles in Mandela Park on Tuesday morning with hubcaps, fire extinguishers, a jack and wheel spanners missing, said Lieutenant Siyabulela Vukubi.

After speaking to residents, they went to a house in 19 section and found the 24-year-old man with the stolen goods.

“As the police arrested the suspect he became riotous and the scuffle began. In the process he tried to grab one of the officer’s firearms but he was brought under control.”

The man will appear in court soon for two counts of theft out of a motor vehicle and possession of stolen property. News24
