Five days after a bloody shoot-out during an attempted cigarette van heist at a petrol station outside Cape Town International Airport, the third suspect was still on the run.

Provincial police spokesperson Captain FC Van Wyk said on Monday that the man, who fled the scene after his two accomplices were shot, remained at large. The man fled on foot.

One robber was killed and another injured in the shoot-out with security guards on Wednesday.

Witnesses told News24 the trio pulled up behind the delivery vehicle shortly before midday in a Toyota Tazz, after which guns were pointed at the delivery men.

However, a Fidelity Guard vehicle pulled up shortly thereafter. A shoot-out then ensued.

The injured man was taken to hospital where he was held under police guard.

The 29-year-old suspect appeared in the Bellville Magistrate’s Court on Friday after being released from hospital the day before, Van Wyk confirmed.

“The case was postponed to October 16 and the suspect [remains] in custody,” he said. News24
