Jumuah prayers at the Gatesville Mosque this Friday – which coincides with the day of Christmas – will be dedicated to the person and personality of Jesus Christ. The sermon will be delivered by the Imaam of the mosque – the largest in the country accommodating over 5 000 worshippers – Sheikh Abduragaan Alexander and is intended to create a better understanding between followers of these two great religions on the life of Jesus Christ.
Many people are unaware that Mary , the mother of Jesus Christ , has a very special status in Islam with an entire chapter in the Holy Quran named after her in reverence. The programme commences at 12. 30 pm and ends at 1.30pm .
The organizers are expecting a very large turnout considering the many tourists in Cape Town at present. Observers from other religions or non-believers are welcome but should come early as special seating arrangements will be provided.
