Renowned Islamic scholar Mufti Ismail Menk, who has gained both local and international acclaim for his post taraweeh lectures, is set to take his hugely popular Tafseer programmes to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia for Ramadan 2014. It will be the first time Menk has hosted the tafseer programmes outside of Southern Africa.

A relatively household name to the local Muslim community, the Zimbabwean born scholar gained his knowledge under the guidance of his father Mufti Musa Menk. He holds a degree in Shariah Law from the University on Madina and also completed his secular education at an academic college in Harare.

Menk has opted to take his lectures to an international audience and will be situated at the Tuanku Mizan Zainal Abidin Masjid, in the city of Putrajaya for the duration of the holy month. He is slated to deliver 30 minute lectures following the completion of the Taraweeh salah, but is unfortunately not expected to lead the night time prayers.

Menk’s tour, titled ‘Ramadaan with a difference’, will be run under the theme of ‘Getting to Know the companions of Muhammad (pbuh)’. The aim, according to Menk, is to provide Muslims with alternative role models, particularly in light of the current idolisation of football players taking place during the 2014 Fifa World Cup.

CII Radio are expected to conduct a live audio stream of the lectures to the local community, through the month. VOC (Mubeen Banderker)
