In the wake of an alleged recruitment of a teenage girl to ISIS, the Muslim Judicial Council (MJC) will host a workshop on Wednesday to educate the ulema on the extremist group and the dangers of social media to youth. On Sunday, a 15 year old Kenwyn girl was intercepted from a British Airways flight at Cape Town International Airport, while on her way to Saudi Arabia to allegedly join ISIS. The incident has sparked public concern  on how far ISIS may have extended its global recruitment program.

Speaking to VOC News, MJC spokesperson Nabeweya Malick condemned the actions of the global organisation.  The ulema body views the latest incident as a wake up call for the ulema and parents to understand how ISIS uses social media to entrap youth.

“ISIS is in no way a reflection of the Muslim community neither does it represent the principles of Islam. Parents are our focus in this campaign as they are not very tuned in to the cyber world. On the one side, the ulema body will be sending out a message to the broader community and reiterate our condemnation of their atrocities,” Malik explained.

The MJC will be focussing its efforts on the use of the internet.
“The internet is a forum where whether one is in Iraq, Syria or US, it has become very easy for those individuals to communicate with someone in Athlone for example,” she said.

“The reality is out there. There are serious efforts being made to recruit young people into the ISIS army. It is time for our community to not be naïve about the dangers of the internet which is being manipulated through devious attempts by some to change the ideas and mindset of youngsters,” Malik warned. 1. on the one hand blame is shifted to others, on the other hand some blame is laid at our own doors, for too long the ulema bodies have been duplicitous, many of their members preaching sectarianism and hate from the minmbars and mihrabs, openly and sometimes subtly, then some apparently verligte shuyookh are also on the bandwagon of hate because they dont want to be left out from the "popularity" of the ak hoosens sh erafaan abrahams dr imtiaz soolemans quraisha xx soolemans et al

they were the most ardent supporters of the precursors of isil, it doesnt take rocket science mentality to recognise where ultimately people will lead to and what theyll do when you know their roots

saudi wahabi salafi taliban al qaeda deobandi boko haram fsi isil isis al nusra "is"… no difference,

theyve preached the hate now when the repercussions are at hand they want to perform damage control
