Just a few weeks after the 16 Days of Activism against Women and Children, and another innocent girl has been brutally murdered.  On Tuesday night, the body of a 10 year old girl was found dead in Vrygrond, after she was stabbed multiple times and bled to death.  It’s been reported that the girl was stabbed in front of other children while playing in a park. A 20 year old suspect was arrested for the crime after community members chased him down.  The motive of the incident is yet to be determined.

“Yesterday morning a 20 year old male was arrested on charges of murder. He is due in the Muizenberg court once he has been charged on Monday,” said police spokesperson Andre Traut.

Residents are up in arms over the senseless killing. The Steenberg Community Policing Forum (CPF) will be staging a picket outside the Muizenberg magistrate court appealing to law officials not to grant bail to the suspect.

“It is very hard to think that we have just passed 16 Days of Activism but we still have 365 days of violence against women and children. We will be demonstrating to oppose this monster being granted bail. He wanted to stab this child. He planned this. We want to make clear that there is no place for such monsters in our community,” says CPF spokesperson Lucinda Evans.   VOC
