Police in Mossel Bay on Thursday appealed to residents to help with information that could lead to the arrest of six men who killed a farmer.

Captain Malcom Pojie said cases of murder and armed robbery were opened following the death of 54-year-old Fedoras Tolman near Hartenbos, Mossel Bay, on Wednesday.

“Information reveals that the deceased was on his way to fetch some of his workers… when a group of armed men ambushed him on the dirt road near his farm,” he said in a statement.

“The suspects, about six unknown men, tried to pull him over at a barricade which they created by pulling a branch of wood across the road.”

Tolman refused to stop and the men fired several shots at him.

“As the deceased sped off in the direction of Hartenbos, he lost control of his truck and the vehicle came to a halt in the veld adjacent to the Brandwag/Hartenbos Road.”

He was shot in the upper body. Pojie said the men then pulled over a couple travelling from Brandwag to Hartenbos in a Chevy Aveo.

They hijacked the vehicle at gun-point and sped off.

“Police later recovered the vehicle where it had been abandoned at the Dana Bay off-ramp with Louise Fourie Road in Mossel Bay. The couple was not injured during this ordeal,” he said. SAPA
