The N2 incoming near Cape Town International Airport is open to traffic after burning debris and rubble were cleared, Western Cape police confirmed on Friday afternoon.

Earlier, traffic officials had diverted traffic because of the obstruction.

Spokesperson Colonel Tembinkosi Kinana said the traffic was free flowing and officials on the scene were monitoring a service delivery protest. No injuries were reported.

Protesters stoned a Golden Arrow bus on the N2 near the airport at 14:15 on Friday, the company said.

“Almost all of the windows were damaged but there were no injuries,” Golden Arrow spokesperson Bronwen Dyke told News24.

The bus was empty at the time and had been travelling to Cape Town to pick up commuters.

Kinana said the burning debris had been set up near Borcherd’s Quarry and Airport Approach roads.

According to the Cape Town Metro Police, about 50 protesters ran into Barcelona, Khayelitsha. News24
