Two Navy employees are expected in the Simon’s Town Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday on charges of assault with intent to inflict grievous bodily harm after seven people were whipped with a sjambok at the weekend.
Six cyclists and a runner were attacked on Saturday between 06:45 and 07:30 between Main Road in Kalk Bay and Blackhill Road in Glencairn by two occupants in a silver VW Polo, said police spokesperson Captain FC Van Wyk.
“The incidents are spread over several locations according to reports,” he said.
“Seven cases [have been] reported to both Simon’s Town and Fish Hoek police. [Police have since been informed] that another person had contacted the police and was also reporting that such an incident had taken place on Kommetjie Road, Fish Hoek, at the same time, fitting the same profile of the other cases.”
Van Wyk said the motive for the attack is under investigation.
The two are currently in police custody, he added. News24
