A 9-year-old girl is still missing after she was swept downstream while crossing a flooded river with her father and brother in Klaarstroom, Western Cape police said on Tuesday.

The search for her body resumed on Tuesday morning, with local police and residents lending a hand, said Captain Malcolm Pojie.

The girl, her 5-year-old brother and their father were trying to make the crossing in poor weather on Friday afternoon when they were swept downstream.

The father managed to get out.

The boy’s body was recovered shortly after.

On Monday morning, divers unsuccessfully searched a stretch of river of about 12km.
