The second of two men arrested in connection with the abduction and murder of teacher Jayde Panayiotou is expected to appear in the Port Elizabeth Magistrate’s Court on Monday.

The other man, Thando Siyoli, 31, appeared in the same court on Thursday.

The second arrested man, aged 28, is a close family member whose name is known to News24, but cannot be named until he appears in court.

Panayiotou, a teacher at Riebeeck College Girls’ High School in Uitenhage, was abducted outside her Kabega Park, Port Elizabeth, home on the morning of Tuesday, April 21.

She had been waiting for her lift to her school. Her body was found near Kwanobuhle, Uitenhage, the following day. She had been shot.

She was buried on Tuesday, April 28.

Eastern Cape police spokesperson Brigadier Marinda Mills said on April 30 that two men had been arrested and that there was a strong prima facie case against both.

Police had ruled out robbery as a motive for the murder. News24
