Save South Africa member and ANC stalwart, Sipho Pityana, has called on the public to pray for the downfall of President Jacob Zuma.

Pityana, a staunch critic of Zuma received a thunderous applause from the packed audience at Nongoza Jebe Hall in New Brighton, Port Elizabeth on Wednesday night.

The meeting was attended by some opposition party leaders, members of the civil society and clergy.

This was Pityana’s first public appearance in his home town since his criticism of President Zuma during struggle stalwart Makhenkesi Stofile’s funeral at Alice in August.

He didn’t mince his words. “We must choose  a date when we all of us will be on our knees and pray for the downfall of president Zuma.”

Meanwhile ANC PEC member Andile Lungisa hit back saying Pityana is serving the interests of white capital monopoly and has no struggle credentials.

“You cannot be a veteran of an organisation if you join the movement in 1986 he has no connection with the revolution.”
