The Department of Community Safety has offered a R50 000 reward in a bid to catch cop killers in the Western Cape.

“Let this reward be a stern warning for anyone considering to take lethal action against the brave men and women who serve our communities,” said Community Safety MEC Dan Plato in a statement on Sunday.

“There are now an extra 50 000 reasons why you will not get away with it.”

Plato said last year, 21 police officers were murdered and 645 attacks on police were reported.

“This is the highest count of police officers attacked and murdered in the country last year.

The reward was offered to anyone who could provide accurate information that would lead to the arrest and conviction of those killing police. The decision to grant the reward would be at the discretion of the SA Police Service.

“The situation is abnormal and cannot be accepted,” he said. News24
