Customs officials and the detector dog unit intercepted 30kg of cocaine valued at R9 million at Johannesburg’s OR Tambo International on Monday afternoon‚ the South African Revenue Service says.

“The tagless black bag arrived on a flight from Sao Paolo‚ arousing a lot of suspicious activity around it‚” Sars said in a statement.

“It was immediately detained and found to contain pieces of carbon paper‚ a green duvet and 30 sealed blocks of white substance testing positive for cocaine.” The consignment has been handed over to the South African Police and the Hawks (Directorate for the Investigation of Priority Crimes) for further investigation.
